There are just days left until pay increases for the new term for millions of civil servants and retirees are announced. TurkStat is due to release consumer price data on July 3, which will reveal the difference in price increases for the first six months of the year. Labor and Social Security Minister Vedat Ishkhan said last week that retirees would not be given welfare contributions and that no studies on the subject have been conducted.
So how much of a pay increase will public servants and retirees be given after the welfare contribution expectation ends? What is the most likely prediction for where pensions will be at their lowest?
Social Security Adviser Emin Yılmaz explained questions on this issue to milliyet.com.tr. Yılmaz used the following statement in his speech: Once inflation is determined, the salaries of civil servants, retired civil servants, SSK and Bakır retirees will be recalculated in the name of the inflation differential. Inflation data for June will be released by TURKSTAT at 10 am on July 3.

By how much will payments for SSK and BaĞKur pensioners be increased?
It can be said that the inflation data for the first five months was confirmed at 22.72%. According to the Central Bank market participants survey, the inflation rate for June is expected to be 2.52%. Since the data for the first six months will be about 25.81%, this figure represents the difference between the salary added to the basic pension of SSK and Bağkur retirees.
The salaries of civil servants and retired civil servants are determined by collective agreements. There, too, collective agreements were signed for two years, with 15% in the first semester of 2024 and 10% in the second semester. In this regard, the salary increase difference between civil servants and retired civil servants will be 20.34 percent.
Will public servants and pensioners get the same salary increment?
The progressive salary increase of 8,077TL given to civil servants in July 2023 was not given to retired civil servants. As compensation, the salary increase rates of retired civil servants and SSK and Bakul retirees were equalized. Going back further, we have seen many times in the past periods that the salary increase rates of all retirees, including civil servants, were equal.
During this period, the salary increase rates of civil servant retirees and SSK and Bağkur retirees may be equalized. No equalization of civil servants will be carried out.

“The most important welfare”
Economically, monetary tightening policies are being implemented. However, I would like to emphasize that, taking into account the economic difficulties of retirees, salaries should be equalized and even benefits should be covered.
It is also true that price increases will cause proportional inflation, and that some people will see price increases as opportunistic. To prevent this, administrative sanctions should be strengthened and aggravated.
The best scenario for achieving the lowest possible retirement benefits!
Calculated based on the six-month expected inflation rate of 25.81%, the minimum pension amount will increase from TL 10,000 to TL 12,581. However, we would like to emphasize that this requires legal regulation.”
