Diplomatic sources shared information that an Israel-based El Al airlines passenger plane flying from the Polish capital Warsaw to the Israeli capital Tel Aviv made an emergency landing at Antalya airport.
“An emergency landing was permitted as a passenger was unwell. Fuel was to be provided on humanitarian grounds, but just as the relevant procedures were being completed, the emergency landing was permitted,” a source said of the El Al plane that landed in Antalya. The captain decided to depart of his own accord. He said:
Statement from the airport authorities
Suat Seytoğlu, head of the Antalya Airport Border and Civil Affairs Agency, said the plane had taken off from Europe and was having problems such as “The Israeli aircraft landed at Antalya airport because there were emergency patients on board. It then disembarked the passengers and continued with its own plans.” He gave the information: “That is not our job. The plane landed due to an emergency.”
Seyitoglu noted that claims that the Israeli Embassy intervened in the incident and that passengers were not removed from the plane were untrue.
After dropping off the patient, the plane took off.
Seyitoglu noted that such issues would be decided within the framework of the agreement, saying:
“There is no situation with the ambassador. It is clear in the agreement who buys fuel from where, where and how to act. Thousands of planes are coming, some of them from Russia. He is not buying fuel from here, but he has his own company provide the fuel. It’s not about us, but something like that. The necessary medical teams have been activated to provide emergency treatment to the patients.”
Israeli media suspicions
Some Israeli media reports claimed that Antalya airport officials refused to provide fuel to the plane, which was flying from Warsaw to Tel Aviv, because the airline was based in Israel.
