Cincinnati Reds infielder Jonathan India made some special history for his team on Saturday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals.
According to @JayHayKid of the “Baseball is Dead” podcast on social media:
Jonathan India is the first player to hit the double in seven or more consecutive games since Eduardo Escobar in 2021. India is the first Reds player in franchise history to achieve such a feat.

As of this posting, India is batting .278 with five home runs and 33 RBIs this season. In a year that has been plagued by disappointing performances from Jeimer Candelario and the suspension of promising prospect Noelvi Marte, India has undoubtedly helped keep the offense afloat.
The 27-year-old Florida native is in his fourth season in the major leagues and won Rookie of the Year honors in 2021. He has a career batting average of .259 with 53 home runs and 204 RBIs.
The Reds enter Saturday’s game at 38-44 and could be traded if they fall further out of the race. Trade rumors haven’t been widespread this spring and summer, but there have been suggestions throughout the offseason that India could be traded. Now that Marte is back from his PED suspension, India is arguably more available and the talk could resurface.
As of this posting, the Reds lead the Cardinals 3-1, and the teams are scheduled to conclude the series on Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium.
The Reds have Monday off before playing against the Yankees on Tuesday.
