While the great thing about traveling is discovering new places, there’s something special about returning to a favorite destination, which also says a lot about why it stands out as one of the best places to visit.
So, where are travelers most likely to return?
Travel insurance specialist InsureandGo recently released a report ranking the places travelers most want to return to. To compile the list, researchers looked at nearly 500 countries, cities, and tourist attractions around the world, analyzing thousands of Reddit comments and hundreds of online reviews to uncover the places that have the most appeal to return to.
“There’s no end to the experiences you can have while traveling, as there are so many countries and cities around the world just waiting to be explored,” Russell Wallace, travel insurance expert at InsureandGo, said in the release. “But sometimes, traveling to the same place multiple times can provide a richer experience – you’ll get a better understanding of the destination, gain better local insight, and maybe even discover hidden gems.”

Known for its rich culture and diverse attractions, Japan tops the list of countries travelers want to return to. With 324 mentions in Reddit discussions alone, it’s clear that Japan captivates visitors with its stunning blend of tradition and modernity, from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the serene landscapes of Kyoto.
Following Japan are Italy and Spain, perennial favourites among globetrotters. Mentioned 294 and 209 times respectively, these Mediterranean gems dazzle visitors with their delicious cuisine, stunning coastlines and architectural wonders.
When it comes to cities, London reigns as the ultimate destination to revisit, with iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London. Rounding out the top five on the list are Paris, Barcelona, New York (tied), and Rome.
When it comes to tourist attractions, Dollywood was named the place travelers most want to return to. Located in the heart of Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, the theme park is partly owned by legendary singer Dolly Parton and delights visitors with a unique blend of entertainment, nostalgia and Southern hospitality. California’s Disneyland came in at number two. Many other locations tied for fifth place, including Yosemite National Park, Blenheim Palace in England and Tokyo Disneyland.
