WALL – Republican U.S. Representative Chip Roy has announced that he is preparing a bill to call for Vice President Kamala Harris to impeach President Joe Biden using the 25th Amendment to the Constitution.
In a post on his social media account, Roy said he was calling for Biden’s impeachment because he was “failing to successfully discharge the duties and powers of the presidency.”
Calling for Harris to exercise her powers in accordance with an additional provision of the Constitution, Roy said, “I have decided to exercise my powers as Vice President in accordance with Article 25, Section 4 and assume the primary duties of the Vice President with immediate effect. “The Cabinet is considering introducing a bill to require this as the President (Biden) is not able to discharge his powers and duties well,” he said.
If the bill is put to a vote in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and passed by a “yes” vote, Harris would be given 24 hours to respond to Biden’s removal from office.
The 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides for a procedure for removing a president from office if he is deemed unable to function and for the vice president to temporarily assume power.
For this provision to be implemented, an absolute majority of cabinet members would need to support Harris’ decision to remove her from office.
