I’ve always longed for a return to the days of ’90s movie marketing, when it seemed like every big movie had some sort of merch on sale to coincide with its release. It looks like those days are finally back, thanks to Dune 2’s sexually indicative popcorn buckets. Despicable Me is the latest film to make bizarre use of food containers. I wholeheartedly welcome this new era of cinema.
Don’t worry, kids’ movies have rarely done anything more suggestive than Deadpool’s wild popcorn bucket. Despicable Me 4 has its own popcorn bucket, but that’s not what made me cry with laughter this morning. By chance, I came across @CelineCardina’s viral TikTok, which showed purchasable drink containers in conjunction with a kids’ movie. It’s too ridiculous for words, so watch it below:

What more perfect gift could there be for anyone who’s watched the Despicable Me series with their kids and is preparing for the fourth installment? I’ve never wanted to drink from the head of a cone-headed, super-powered Minion, but if my little daughter saw it for sale while standing in line for snacks, I’m sure it would be the only thing she ever dreamed of in her life.
Apparently, these will only be sold at Cinemark theaters, so if you like quirky merch and a marvelous twist on the Despicable Me Minions, now’s your chance to find one. That being said, this is likely to be a hot item that sells out quickly, as a video of the drink holder has garnered over 1 million likes on TikTok in just one day. Whether it’s out of pure curiosity or sarcasm, it’s unclear whether many people are intrigued by the cup.
As I mentioned before, movie merchandise like this was one of my favorites growing up. My kitchen was filled with Burger King Disney cups, glow-in-the-dark Casper dolls from Pizza Hut, and countless other items I’ve since lost. Honestly, I feel so nostalgic about these items that I would buy them for my own kids. Although the Minion drink holder isn’t necessarily the most practical thing to own.
Plus, I’m going to see Despicable Me at the cinema because it’s one of the best kids movies to take the kids to right now. Despite the accusations that the Minions are annoying and the adult consensus that Disney movies are so much better, these movies are really fun and at times have held my kids’ interest better than the more highbrow Disney productions.
Despicable Me hits theaters on Wednesday, July 3rd, making it the perfect movie to watch right before the Fourth of July fireworks, so we’re curious to see if Inside Out 2 will continue to be a big hit at the box office once it’s released.
