The TSA says it’s preparing for a big summer travel season, with Friday potentially being the busiest day in LAX’s history.
KTLA’s Carlos Herrera reported that conditions were calm at Los Angeles International Airport just before 6 a.m. Friday, but were not expected to stay that way for long.
” [slow morning] “Today is going to be the busiest day in the history of LAX, so don’t let that fool you,” Herrera said. “Not just at LAX, actually, but at airports across the U.S.”
The TSA projects it could screen more than 3 million people on Friday and more than 32 million by July 8, an increase of about 5% from last year.

“We expect this summer to be our busiest yet,” TSA Administrator David Pekoski told The Associated Press.
Herrera reported that lower domestic airfare prices are likely contributing to the increase in travel.
The increased number of travelers can make it difficult to get to your gate at LAX and other airports. Experts recommend arriving early for your flight, as it can be difficult to navigate traffic jams outside the airport and security lines may be longer than usual.
In addition to crowded airports, up to 60 million people are expected to travel by car over the Fourth of July holiday, according to AAA. The most popular road trip destinations for Southern California residents include Las Vegas, San Diego and Phoenix.
