FORDYCE, Ark. – Residents of Fordyce are helping out after a shooting temporarily shut down a major source of food for many in town.
Alumni from Fordyce High School came together to host a food distribution for area residents, and organizers said they hope to secure more resources for people who buy their groceries from the Mad Butcher grocery store.

According to the organizers, the next grocery store is more than 20 minutes away, so one of the graduates’ daughters donated more than $1,000 to ensure there was enough food for everyone in need. More than 30 people have benefited from the food distribution, and the organizers hope to help even more.
Darin Brazil, an alumnus who helped organize the food drive, said what’s important now is serving the Fordyce community and helping those who need it most.
“We wanted to come together as alumni, as a district, and show the community that we’re here, that we love you, and that no matter what we’ve been through, it all makes us stronger,” Brazile said.
