The Portuguese international’s talents aren’t limited to the football pitch, as he has also announced forays into business.
When Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t singlehandedly saving Juventus’ Champions League hopes with a hat-trick against Atletico Madrid or breaking record after record on the soccer pitch, he’s running his own hair transplant clinic.
Announced in March 2019, the Portuguese sensation has opened his own hair transplant clinic in Spain, primarily to help improve people’s self-esteem.
But what are the details of the clinic and how much does the procedure cost? Goal finds out.
What is Ronaldo’s hair transplant clinic?
Ronaldo, who is known for his interest in self-care and appearance, has said he wants to open a clinic to help people suffering from alopecia, a condition that causes partial or complete loss of hair from areas of the body where it normally grows (in this case the head), leading to premature hair loss.
Ronaldo said he would open the clinic to help Spaniards and boost the country’s economy, in addition to giving people confidence in controlling their hair growth to avoid problems such as male pattern baldness.
Ronaldo attended the launch of the company, which is owned by Inspalia, in which he holds 50 percent of the shares.
“Alopecia is a huge problem in Europe and around the world and we want to help people improve their self-esteem and not feel embarrassed about coming to us,” Cristiano said at the inauguration.
“Everyone wants to take care of their image and I am a perfect example of this. That’s why when Paulo[Ramos, Group CEO]told me about this project, I immediately knew it was something unique.
“This project will be a success because we want to support the Spanish people and the Spanish economy.”
The Inspalia group has 10 clinics in Portugal and has performed around 35,000 transplants so far. Treatments usually take around six hours and cost between 4,000 euros (£3,400) and 7,000 euros (£6,000).
“This new project is unique, innovative and focused on research and technology. I intend to contribute and invest in improving the self-esteem of many men and women affected by alopecia,” Ronaldo elaborated in an Instagram post.
He also said that he would not hesitate to use the services of his hair clinic when the time comes. [to have a transplant]Of course I do. Image is an essential tool for success. For me it is fundamental.”
According to the Daily Mirror, the clinic will employ 150 people and carry out an average of 18 transplants a day, including beard and eyebrow procedures. His girlfriend Georgina will also be one of the clinic’s managers.
“In addition to football, I am passionate about health, technology and research and these are areas I want to invest in,” Ronaldo said last month.
Did Ronaldo have a hair transplant?
While players such as Wayne Rooney have been open about having a hair transplant in 2011, it is yet to be confirmed whether the former Real Madrid star has had a hair transplant, despite him saying he would avail of the services of his clinic.
Ronaldo showed up to the Monaco gala with the receding hairline that many men suffer from, but by his next public appearance the receding hairline seemed to have disappeared.
In response, hair transplant specialists at the Belgravia Centre posted a tongue-in-cheek message on their website: “We’re sure this star will be hoping to address her hair loss as soon as it starts.”
