Table to Table, a local nonprofit that works to reduce food waste and feed food-insecure communities, recently received a $50,000 grant from Bank of America, the nonprofit announced Tuesday.
The grants are intended to provide fresh food to all groups, including children, seniors, families, veterans, people with disabilities and those in financial need, in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris and Passaic counties.
Heather Thompson, executive director of Table to Table, said the grant will proactively strengthen the fight against food insecurity.
“More than 3 billion meals of food are wasted annually in our state, and nearly 1 million people face food insecurity,” Thompson said. “Bank of America’s generous support and continued investment strengthens our mission, allowing us to get more fresh, nutritious food into the hands of those who really need it, and in the process, keeping quality food out of landfills. We are incredibly grateful.”
Table to Table officials aim to make a positive impact on the individuals and families who receive food through partner organizations such as Bank of America. The Saddle Brook organization supports health and wellness through the ongoing provision of fresh produce, protein, dairy and other healthy staples that are expensive and not readily available through traditional food distribution.
Bank of America New Jersey President Alberto Garofalo praised Table to Table’s efforts to serve the state.
“Working with Table to Table to improve food security and access to nutrition for Northern New Jersey residents is part of our commitment to driving positive change across the state,” Garofalo said. “Their work is not just about food supply, it’s about providing fresh, nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste. Our investment in Table to Table demonstrates our role as a catalyst to strengthen our communities.”
