A new limited series podcast has launched, “Disney – A Recorded History.” The series will include 12 episodes in total, with the first few available to listen to now.
This limited series podcast is a collection of rare, never-before-seen recordings highlighting key points in Disney film and music history. Listeners will hear directly from those who lived through the era, including animators Ward Kimball, Frank Thomas, and Ollie Johnston, musicians Henry Mancini, Richard M. Sherman, Robert B. Sherman, and, best of all, Walt Disney himself.
Hosted by Grammy Award-winning producer for Walt Disney Records and Disney music historian Randy Thornton, “Disney – Recorded History” will take audiences through the recording of the first cartoon soundtrack with synchronized sound (Steamboat Willie), the first Disney hit song (Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?), the preparations for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, World War II, Bambi and Mary Poppins – all in celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary and Mary Poppins’ 60th anniversary.
New episodes of “Disney – Recorded History” are scheduled to premiere between June and August, with more details to be announced at a later date.
On October 16, 1923, Walt Disney, a budding filmmaker in Los Angeles, signed a distribution deal for a series of live-action and animated comedy shorts about a young girl set in a cartoon world inspired by Alice in Wonderland, and the company was born. Originally called Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, Walt and his brother Roy Disney soon changed it to the Walt Disney Studios that we all know today.
The Walt Disney Company celebrated its 100th anniversary on Monday, October 16, 2023. During the Centennial celebration, Disney will introduce special activations, tie-ins, and moments that highlight what has made the company so special to so many over the past 100 years. The Disney 100 celebration began last October, but as Walt Disney once said, “We’re just getting started.”
