A historic Civilian and Soldier Day will be held on Saturday, July 20th at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson. This annual event will feature numerous exhibits, re-enactments and events depicting civilian and military life from various eras from the Civil War to present day. This is a free event and will be held on the museum grounds. The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is home to a restored WWII Pullman military car, a large collection of working railroad signals, and all kinds of rolling stock, locomotives and memorabilia from a bygone era.
There is a small fee for the 10-mile round-trip diesel and steam locomotive tours through the Indiana countryside. From 10:00 AM CST to 8:00 PM CST, numerous diesel and steam locomotive tours depart from the depot area. No one knows what adventures await passengers as they travel approximately 5 miles to the Kankakee River at English Lake and return to North Judson. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. Passengers can ride in either the open-air sightseeing car, the vintage coach, and/or the caboose. Ticket prices start at $14. Train tickets may sell out, so it is recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance at www.hoosiervalley.org.
Steam Locomotive Sightseeing Tours will operate again at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM CST on Sunday, July 21. Steam Locomotive Sightseeing Tours are scheduled for a number of Saturdays and/or Sundays throughout the remainder of the 2024 season.
