BHOPAL: International Yoga Day on Friday was an opportunity for many to explore the beauty and historical heritage of various tourist destinations in Madhya Pradesh.
The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) and the Union Tourism Ministry have organised yoga at over 50 tourist destinations in the state, including the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Khajuraho and Sanchi Stupa.
As the theme of this year’s Yoga Day was “Safe Tourist Destinations for Women”, over 5,000 women, including foreign tourists, took part in the Yoga Day celebrations at various tourist destinations.
Many of the tourists were visiting the destination for the first time and got a chance to see the famous sites and also get to experience its glorious history and rich culture, MPTB Public Relations Director Anurag Uike said.

“The aim of this initiative is to get women interested in tourism, that’s why maximum number of women were invited to participate in each destination so that they can get to know the destinations and inspire others to visit these fascinating and historical destinations,” Uike said.
He said more than 10,000 women have been trained and linked with tourism-related service sectors, while 40,000 women and girls have been trained in self-defence.
As more women are employed in the tourism sector, there is also an increased sense of comfort and security among female tourists, especially those travelling alone.
Uike said so far, over 8,000 women have been trained in 48 jobs in the tourism sector.
