Meetings have begun between Minister of Finance and Treasury Mehmet Şimşek and CHP’s Deputy Chairman of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury Yalçin Karatepe.
Minister Şimşek and Deputy Minister Zekeriya Kaya welcomed Mr. Kara Tepe to the ministry.
Raising the minimum wage and retirement benefits
The CHP delegation’s file is huge. One of the most important topics of the meeting is the minimum wage increase in July. Also on the agenda is a proposal to increase pensions for retirees by inflation plus welfare contributions.
Shadow Minister Yalcin Karatepe and a CHP delegation are also expected to brief Minister Şimşek on ways to find financial resources for the increase.
Kara Tepe also prepared a report with suggestions for the tax reform package the government is currently working on. CHP staff will also present to the finance minister topics they describe as issues requiring urgent attention.
Topics such as increasing agricultural support, TUIK data and wealth funds are also expected to be on the agenda during the meeting.

The decision to meet Şimşek with the CHP delegation was taken during a meeting between AKP President Tayyip Erdoğan and CHP Chairman Özgür Özer at the CHP headquarters.
Members of the CHP shadow cabinet had previously met with Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defense Minister Yasar Güler and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Ozaseki.
