A man who approached young children at a Food Truck Friday event in downtown Pinckney on June 21 was booked into Livingston County Jail without bail.
According to a statement from the Pinckney Police Department, suspect Jeremy Mills, 38, of Pinckney, interrupted children playing catch with a football and began grabbing, tickling and hugging the children, causing them anxiety.
As officers approached the location, Mills threw a football at them, who dodged it and went to talk to him. Mills told officers he was a friend of the children’s parents, but witnesses said they heard Mills tell the children he was their uncle.
According to the release, Mills appeared to be intoxicated and was uncooperative with officers. A second officer arrived and it was determined Mills would be detained pending further investigation. Mills resisted being handcuffed but was eventually taken into custody.
As he was being taken to the police station, Mills shouted obscenities, disrupting the domestic atmosphere at the scene.
Further interviews revealed that Mills had grabbed the boy multiple times. The boy believed Mills was trying to separate him from his parents. When the boy’s parents asked him to come to them, Mills stepped between them and prevented them from gaining custody of the child.
Police said Mills did not know any of the children or their parents involved. He was booked into the Livingston County Jail without bail.
On June 22, the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office approved numerous felony charges against Mills, but the release did not provide details about the charges.
Mills was arraigned in 53rd District Court on June 24 and bail was set at $100,000.
The Pinckney Police Department is continuing its investigation to locate all victims.
