On December 18, 2010 at approximately 9:00pm, DeKalb County police officers were called to Church’s Chicken on Flakes Mill Road in reference to a robbery in progress.
When police arrived, they found Andrews unconscious on the floor and bleeding from his head.
Witnesses told DKPD that two men wearing surgical masks entered the restaurant with guns and demanded that the safe be opened. One of the suspects had dreadlocks that reached down to his neck and had red tips.
When the suspects noticed the cashier did not have the keys, they jumped over the counter and demanded where the safe was.
Authorities said Andrews, an employee, was trying to hide a co-worker in a freezer in the back of the store when the dreadlocked suspect pointed a gun at another employee’s head and Andrews tried to stop him.
Investigators said the gunman shot Andrews twice, striking him in the head, before the suspects stole cash from the register and fled.
