DANVILLE, Pa. — The CSO Mobile Food Pantry, funded by Geisinger and Giant, will soon begin making monthly visits to the Danville Area Community Center (DACC).
The Geisinger and Giant-funded CSO mobile food pantry will soon begin making monthly visits to DACC, with a large trailer loaded with fresh, nutritious food, produce, hygiene products and other essentials.
Additionally, in the near future, the “DACC Helping our Neighbors” program will have CSO staff stationed at DACC to assist individuals with housing and various humanitarian needs, and provide other forms of support, referrals, and follow-up.
Geisinger said that earlier this year, Geisinger, Giant Company and CSO, Inc. announced a partnership for a mobile food pantry to provide food to food-insecure residents in the target area, the Central Susquehanna Valley, and make it available to anyone in need.
Mobile food distribution centers will travel around the area.
DACC
The food pantry made its first visit to Coal Township last week and also visited Berwick earlier this week. The visit to DACC will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 26th. Monthly visits to DACC take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
According to Heather Laubach, DACC’s chief operating officer, DACC is looking to do something bigger than just fitness and wellness.
“We are committed to growing, evolving and better serving the needs of those living in our community. In our 38 years of operation, we have provided programs for people of all ages. The addition of the Mobile Food Pantry allows us to continue to grow, meet the needs and provide services to families.”
“This is what we do. CSO is a community action agency. We are committed to strengthening communities by strengthening families,” said Megan Bear, Chief Operating Officer of CSO, Inc. “Food insecurity is a huge issue in the area and through this partnership we will be working with some incredibly caring organizations and people.”
Families interested in visiting the food pantry should contact CSO at 570-644-6575. Families will be considered eligible, but no family in need will be turned away.
The partnership between Geisinger, Giant Company and CSO, Inc. was announced last year.
“All of our partners have been incredibly generous and we’re so grateful for everyone’s help in moving this project forward. This is a fantastic opportunity to expand our mission,” Baer said.
According to Laubach, this is just the beginning. “Soon we will have a food pantry here, and by the fall we will have a DACC Helping our Neighbors concierge and CSO staff here at DACC. We continue to grow so we can better serve those who need us most.”
