CHP member Serafetin Bahadur was attacked yesterday evening in Kayseri’s Pinarbasi district. Two people have been arrested for his attack.
It was revealed that CHP’s Serafettin Bahadur’s life was in danger after he was attacked by the younger brother of MHP’s Mendkh Uzunluoğlu. Finally, it was announced that Bahadur would be put to sleep for five days.
Statement from the AKP
In a statement released by the AKP Kayseri Provincial Directorate, it said: “As is known, as a result of the local elections held in Pinarbasi on June 2, 2024, the mayor’s position passed from the MHP to the CHP. Of course, a democratic position requires consent to the will of the people, and we must accept the results and congratulate the city on the winner. The history of democracy and free elections in our country, the political parties and candidates have accumulated experience that creates a political and social recognition that there is competition between the two countries, not hostility.
However, even on a local scale, there can be attitudes and actions that go beyond the bounds of competition, or interactions that touch on sensitivities and lead to undesirable and unacceptable incidents.
“By having lots of fun…”
In fact, after the re-election in Pinarbas, it seems that one of our compatriots on the winning side, in his joy, turned the election results from a political to a personal issue. Excessive celebration in its current form seems to be turning the competition, which is always present and essential in the nature of politics, into anger, making the issue personal rather than political.
Therefore, we do not believe that the younger brother of the MHP candidate, who was unable to digest the “insult” against his brother and inflicted injury on Mr. Serafettin Bahadur, should have any association with the MHP or the political establishment.
Ultimately, in our opinion, politicizing such a tragic case is not a healthy or correct approach for any party or individual. Moreover, such an approach will not help the tranquility of our Pinarbasi district. Our expectation is that an independent judicial body will bring the case to light in its entirety. As law-abiding actors, we would like to say that the best course of action is to await the results of the prosecution, investigation and judiciary.
On this occasion, we wish our compatriot Serafettin Bahadur a speedy recovery and pray for his speedy recovery. Furthermore, we believe that it is our duty from the point of view of political morality to consider using people’s physical features as political material to be ugly and unethical. However, the absolute principle that no justification can justify violence is beyond debate for us. “AK Party will continue to defend the rights of the Pinarbasi people by always upholding rights and truth together with all people and organizations.”
