Caring for someone’s children means making sure they’re safe and, hopefully, happy, and to keep them that way, caregivers will usually use their best judgement unless given specific instructions by the parents.
The only thing the woman received was a packed lunch that her friend had brought for her 7-year-old daughter when she dropped her off. But the child seemed hungry after finishing the lunch her mother had packed for her, so the woman thought it was okay for her to eat some more. She was wrong.
