Minister of Finance and Treasury Mehmet Şimşek continues his overseas investor meetings in the British capital, London.
Simsek made the remarks about the Turkish economy while meeting investors at the Chatham House conference.
Key points from Minister Simsek’s remarks:
“Inflation could fall to the low 40s or low 30s this year, the mid-teens next year and single digits the year after.”
“Markets are also beginning to believe that the program we have in place will help keep inflation under control and in check.”
The consumer price index (CPI) rose to an annualized 75.45% in May.
Simsek also responded to a question about why Turkey is not a member of BRICS by saying that Turkey’s main partner is the European Union (EU) and it cannot leave the EU.
Simsek plans to stay in London again after his visit in October 2023.
Minister Şimşek will again attend an investor meeting in London following his visit to London in October 2023. Şimşek’s contacts in London will continue until Friday.
Simsek is due to meet hundreds of investors within the scope of the gathering, which is being organised by investment banks JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank and Dome Group.
At the conference, Simsek will meet with portfolio investors, major global investment funds and credit rating agencies.
He will also attend a London conference at Chatham House, one of the world’s leading think tanks, where he will brief high-level participants on the latest developments in the Turkish economy and its economic plans.
