Galatasaray, Super League champions for the past two seasons, are the first to sign a player from arch rivals Fenerbahçe during the summer transfer period, with Michy Batshuayi joining the club at the end of his contract after a fantastic season in the yellow-navy jersey.
The agreement was reached and I passed the medical examination.
According to news from TRT Spor, Galatasaray and Michy Batshuayi have reached a three-year contract, with the 30-year-old Belgian striker set to receive 3 million euros per year in signing-on bonuses totalling around 3 million euros over the three-year period.
The news also highlighted that Batshuayi had passed a medical examination. Batshuayi’s contract with Fenerbahce is set to expire on June 30 before the transfer is made official.
Fenerbahce offer
Fenerbahce, who were in contract extension negotiations with Batshuayi, offered the same annual salary as Galatasaray but reportedly made a lower offer for a signing-on bonus.
What did he do last season?
Michy Batshuayi played a total of 43 games for Fenerbahçe last season, scoring 24 goals and providing three assists.
Why is the option not active?
The Belgian striker had a one-year option in his contract with Fenerbahce but for that to be activated he needed to feature in the starting 11 for a certain number of games last season, something he failed to achieve, leading to Batshuayi’s release.
The Big Three will also wear jerseys
He began his Super League career on loan from Besiktas before joining Fenerbahçe for a fee of €3.5 million, and the Belgian striker is very close to pulling on the Galatasaray jersey come the new season.
He has worn the Galatasaray jersey before
In 2017, Michy Batshuayi threw on a Galatasaray jersey and played a match on the AstroTurf pitch with some friends, causing a social media frenzy at the time.
