Monday’s stabbing was not the first time police have been called to Miami’s Garden Lounge & Restaurant.
INDIANAPOLIS — A northwest Indianapolis restaurant where nine people were stabbed to death early Monday remains closed, according to the Pike Township fire chief.
Monday’s stabbing isn’t the first time police have been called to Miami’s Garden Lounge & Restaurant: 13News has uncovered three separate police reports from the location this year alone.
The first incident was a fight outside the club on New Year’s Day, then in March there was a report of a person being taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, with the scene listed as Miami Gardens.
A third report, filed in late May, was about another fight at the club.
Miami Police say Excise Police recently visited the restaurant to investigate. 13 News has reached out to Excise Police for more information about the Miami’s Garden investigation but has not heard back.
Police said Monday that the stabbing appears to have happened during a disturbance between two groups.
One “suspect” sustained traumatic injuries and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Four others were also taken to local hospitals, two in critical condition and two in “stable condition.”
In an update Monday morning, an Indianapolis police spokesperson said detectives later learned of two more victims, bringing the total number of stabbing victims to nine, who were treated at the scene and released from the hospital.
On Monday night, Indianapolis police announced the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect on preliminary charges including two counts of attempted murder and three counts of aggravated assault.
(Note: 13News has a policy of not releasing the names of suspects until prosecutors have formally filed charges.)
