Plano’s day camp goes beyond sports and arts and crafts: It empowers young people to understand and fight hunger in their communities.
The North Texas Food Bank has announced that it will be hosting its second annual day camp for children ages 8-11 this summer every Monday from 9am to 3pm at the North Texas Food Bank Perot Family Campus, located at 3677 Mapleshade Lane, Plano, Texas, 75075.
Campers will get a behind-the-scenes look at NTFB through hunger, gardening and nutrition-related activities, and they will also participate in packing kit food boxes for neighbors struggling with hunger.
There are five more Kids Camp sessions available for registration.

Texas currently has the highest number of hungry people in the country, with the Dallas-Fort Worth area third only to Los Angeles and New York.
“At the North Texas Food Bank, fighting hunger together means involving everyone in our community, and that includes empowering the youngest generations to be the first to understand and fight hunger in their neighborhoods and communities,” Cathy Collins, community engagement director for the North Texas Food Bank, said in a news release.
“The North Texas Food Bank’s service area has the fourth highest number of food insecure children in the country, with one in six children facing hunger. Kids Camp is a great way to develop the next generation of hunger fighters.”
