Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways (GSNYPENN) has concluded its annual cookie sale, selling 1,433,262 packages from January through April. The organization donated 21,434 packages to local food banks, including the Food Bank of Central New York and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
Girl Scouts use the money from cookie sales to support community service projects, summer camps, badge earning and other activities. They also learn about financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Cookie donations through Sweet Support Gift of Caring projects were down 12.5% this year.
GSNYPENN is asking area residents to donate $6 to donate a box of cookies to a local food bank by June 30. Donations can be made at gsnypenn.org/sweetdonation .
“By supporting the Sweet Support Gift of Caring project, you’re helping a local family,” said Julie Dale, CEO of GSNYPENN. “A donation of $6 can help bring a smile to someone’s face in need.”
