SMA protesters arrested on Bosphorus Bridge
Police closed the bridge in both directions in case of any danger, and long queues formed on both sides of the bridge.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced shortly afterward that RCÇ had been receiving treatment for bipolar disorder for a year and a half. After negotiations that lasted about an hour, the suspect was taken away by a police team.
The RCÇ procedures at the Beşiktaş District Police Station have been completed.
The suspects were sent to the Istanbul Court of Çalayan. RCÇ, who testified at the Prosecutor’s Office, was referred to a criminal trial for duty-peace.
The judge decided to arrest the suspect on charges of “endangering road safety” and “threatening to cause fear and panic among the public.”
His statement was made clear
In his statement before the prosecutor’s office, RCÇ said he committed the acts in question to draw attention to the poor condition of children with SMA.
RCÇ explained that he had built a bomb-like device in his car, saying: “My purpose was to block traffic and draw attention to the problem. Inside the device there was flour, pasta, bulgur. I also placed batteries and other things.” No one knew about it. “I didn’t,” he said.
