DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Local faith leaders and DeKalb County officials are distributing 5,000 boxes of food to residents.
The county says all of the items in the 5,000 boxes will be sourced directly from Georgia, including fruits, vegetables, eggs and chicken legs.

Giveaways will take place at multiple locations around the county starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.
County officials said the monthly food distribution is in celebration of Father’s Day in June.

“We celebrate and honor all the fathers and father figures who love and support their families,” DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond said.
In addition to churches, DeKalb County is also working with other organizations on the giveaway, including La Vision Newspaper and the Chamblee Coalition, a homeless advocacy group.

Funding for the purchase of Georgia-grown produce and poultry came from American Relief Fund funds allocated to the county, according to the DeKalb County government.
