Lebanon’s Hezbollah was one of the first to enter the war between Israel and Hamas in October, and in a short space of time launched numerous attacks into northern Israel. At the time, the Israeli military established a several-kilometer buffer zone in the area, forcing civilians to leave. In early June, Hezbollah launched its largest attack in recent months.
The tensions began in early June.
Fires sparked by rockets fired by Lebanon-based Hezbollah have affected large swaths of northern Israel, while Israel has reportedly requested reinforcements to fight the blazes due to a lack of troops.
Israeli media reported that six firefighters were injured while trying to put out a fire in a residential area in the Kiryat Shimona region of the Upper Galilee in the north. The media also reported that temperatures exceeded 43 degrees Celsius in Kiryat Shimona and Tabariyya, and noted that 15 fires were observed in the Galilee and Golan (Syrian occupied) areas alone.
In addition, Iran has warned Tel Aviv not to allow Israel to enter Lebanon in retaliation for these attacks. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Qani said of Israel, “The Zionists will suffer in this conflict.” News from Lebanese media outlets stated that the US is, for now, preventing a war between Israel and Lebanon behind closed doors.
The Sound of Total War
Meanwhile, news based on Lebanese media Telegram channels reported that Hezbollah’s final preparations for all-out war are complete. Hezbollah supporters’ Telegram channels are now filled with threats against Israel, the most notable of which is “Deadline is this weekend. You will not survive. Our advice to you is to flee to the south,” according to the report.
The reason for these posts was the alleged death of Khadim Safi, one of Hezbollah leader Nasrallah’s most important aides. The Hezbollah wing claimed that Safi had died, but neither the Israeli nor the Beirut wing made any official statement on the matter.
