MHP Chairman Devlet Bahceli said in a written statement that a broad alliance formed by the AKP and CHP was his party’s “sincere wish and desire.”
Following a meeting yesterday (11 June) between AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, CHP Chairman Özgür Özer and Sinan Atesh’s wife Ayse Atesh, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli issued a written statement. In his statement, Bahçeli said that a broad alliance between the CHP and AKP is the “sincere wish” of the MHP.
In a statement, Bahceli stressed that he wanted to establish a “new equation with many unknowns” based on seeking normalization and de-escalation after the March 31 local elections.
“Polarization has no end or conclusion.”
Bahceli said the MHP would not be hindered by good and constructive actions, adding that “polarization and fighting never have an end or result. It is the main and primary duty of a political party to conscientiously accept, discuss, seek and achieve solutions to the demands and problems of the people,” he wrote.
“The alliance between the AKP and the CHP is the MHP’s sincere wish and desire.”
Stating that there were reports that the MHP did not want to ease tensions, Bahçeli continued to refer to the killing of Sinan Ateş without naming him.
“The widespread reputational assassination of the nationalist idealist movement over a murder case which is being prepared for prosecution and the constant polishing of the names of some individuals in connection with this assassination, as well as their being taken from door to door, screen to screen, is full of poisoning the atmosphere of peace and tranquility of mind rather than a mere quest for rights and law.”
Bahçeli said disgruntled groups within the AKP had “muddied the situation,” adding that “forming a broad alliance between the AK Party and the CHP with the support of other elements of the six-nation table is a sincere act. It is the wish and hope of the National Movement Party.”
“Our commitment to the People’s Alliance continues.”
Bahceli said his commitment to the People’s Alliance will continue, concluding with the following words:
“It is impossible to compromise, back down or abandon the People’s Alliance or its principles and goals. Everyone should know very well that no matter what the circumstances, we support and support President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and will never leave him alone.”
