Coming off a 2-1 win over the New York Yankees on Friday night at Yankee Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers stormed back on Saturday, dominating the Yankees 11-3.
En route to a dominating win Saturday, the Dodgers set an astonishing record in major league history by having two players named Hernandez homer in the same game. Kiké Hernández homered in the fourth inning and Teoscar Hernández blasted a pair of extra-base hits, including a grand slam in the eighth inning, on a night in New York.
Teoscar has been in big form since the Dodgers came to the Bronx, sealing the game with a two-run double in the top of the 11th inning, and he wasted no time on Saturday, belting a solo homer in the second inning to give the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead.
With the Dodgers leading by two in the eighth inning, Teoscar hit his second grand slam of the season and fifth of his career over Dodgers relief pitchers, sending Yankees fans running for the exits.
Hernandez had six RBIs Saturday (tying his career high) and has a team-leading 47 RBIs, 35 of which came with runners in scoring position.
“That’s what makes me a really good player,” Hernandez said when asked how much he enjoys batting with runners in scoring position. “I want to be a really good player. Even if I strike out or I don’t get the job done, I want to be in those situations every time. Next time, I want to take that opportunity back and try to do better.”
The Dodgers have a chance to sweep the mighty Yankees on Sunday, and if history has any bearing on the outcome, Teoscar may play a big role in the game. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. PST.
