New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has flown across the Atlantic to London to watch his team take on the Philadelphia Phillies in the MLB World Tour Series, but he’s already sparked major backlash for his comments about food.
Cohen acknowledged that he travels to London frequently for work and, as the owner of a New York team, began his comments about the city by expressing some particularly controversial views.
“I think the food here is amazing,” Cohen says, “better than New York.”
He added that his favourite food he’s had in London so far is the sausages.

Unsurprisingly, fans were quick to respond to Cohen’s claims, with New York fans especially quick to defend the city’s food, as many take great pride in what the city has to offer — and the situation is exacerbated by the fact that London has a reputation for not having the best food in the world.
Here’s a look at some social media reactions to Cohen’s statement:

I lived in London for a few months and the food is better than people think, even better than New York.
Running a New York business, I can’t say the food outside of New York is better than New York.
This might be worse than the Seaver trade. https://t.co/AHyOcK5yYf

Are they doing a soft launch to move the team to London? Why on earth would they say this? https://t.co/U8GBRnVH0h
