Braves franchise history
1906 – The Boston Beaneaters beat the Cardinals 6-3 to end a National League-record 19-game losing streak.
1992 – The Dodgers beat the Braves, 3-2, on a two-run homer by Cal Daniels off Mike Stanton in the eighth inning. Orel Hershiser allowed four hits in the eighth inning and the Dodgers recorded their 12th straight win against Atlanta for the first time since 1987.
1996 – John Smoltz won his 12th of 13 games and the Braves beat the Rockies, 8-3. Colorado scored 32 runs in the first two games of the series.
2010 – Gerardo Parra’s fly ball was hit by a collision between Jason Heyward and Nate McLoss in the outfield. The ball dropped for a two-run inside-park home run, the first home run Peter Moylan had allowed since 2008 (102 1/3 innings). The Braves lost the game, 2-1.
MLB History
1883 – Philadelphia’s National League team receives permission to change its admission price from 50 cents to 25 cents to compete with its city rivals, the Athletics of the American Association. Philadelphia attendance quadruples for the remainder of the season.
1914 – Honus Wagner joins Cap Anson as the only members of the 3,000-hit club. Nap LaJoie joins the club in September. Subsequent research has placed Wagner’s historic hit on either June 30 or July 4, due to discrepancies in 19th-century record keeping.
1932 – Mel Ott hit two home runs and the Giants beat the Reds, 3-2, at the Polo Grounds.
1933 – Jimmie Foxx hits his fifth home run in three games, tying a major league record, but the Athletics lose to the Yankees, 7-6.
1946 – Mel Ott becomes the first major league manager to be ejected from both games of a doubleheader.
1963 – Ernie Banks hit two home runs off Sandy Koufax but the Dodgers won 11-8 at Wrigley Stadium.
1975 – The Dodgers beat the Expos, 4-0, to reach the 1 million mark in attendance for their 27th home game.
1975 – Carl Yastrzemski hits his 500th career double, but the Red Sox lose to the Rangers, 12-4.
1982 – Steve Carlton strikes out 16 to help the Cubs lose their 10th straight game, 4-2.
1989 – Darryl Strawberry hits his 200th career home run in a 4-3 loss to the Pirates.
1990 – Eddie Murray hits his 10th career home run with both at-bats, tying Mickey Mantle’s major league record.
1999 – Mets manager Bobby Valentine is ejected from a 4–3 victory over the Blue Jays in the 14th inning. Valentine returns to the dugout wearing sunglasses and a fake beard after the ejection. Valentine receives a two-game suspension and a $5,000 fine.
2016 – The Phillies selected high school outfielder Mickey Moniak first overall in the 2016 draft.
