Chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ozgur Ozer, attended the 12th Keşkek Day program of the Bayrakli Klaril Association. In response to the soaring wheat prices, Ozgur Ozer announced that a large rally for wheat producers will be held on June 14.
“Wheat growers are rebelling. We will hold a rally with them in Tekirdag. I am calling on Turkey: you are not alone. We are here, we are here, we are fighting for you,” he said.
“The manufacturer has disappeared.”
Criticizing the price paid for wheat in Keskek, CHP leader Ezer said, “We came here today to hold the 12th traditional Keskek festival. You need to know this: things are not going so well in Turkey, and there are also people who can expect it.” Keskek is made from wheat. Wheat is one of the most important elements in our diet and is also the basic nutrient for making bread. But there are also people who produce it in particular. In central Anatolia and the Aegean, from Adana to Thrace, last year wheat was 8 lira and 25 kurush, but this year the price of diesel has increased by more than 100 percent. We paid twice what we paid the harvesters last year, but the price of wheat only increased by 12 percent. “They made it 25 kurush per lira. Unfortunately, as a result of that, we had to sell wheat growers, who used to sell for 11 lira. Now we have 9 lira and 25 kurush,” he said.
“We’re going to hold a rally.”
Announcing that a large rally would be held in Tekirdag to make the voices of wheat growers heard, Ezer said:
“Next Friday, as the CHP, we will go to Tekirdag together and hold a wheat rally to bring the voice of wheat growers to Turkey. So far, we have been saying this in the squares on the way to the elections on March 31. We are here with good candidates in this election, and while we support them, we said these candidates should be candidates of the Turkish Alliance in Izmir. If you make us the first party, we have held the largest pension rally ever in Istanbul. Now the wheat growers are revolting, and we will hold a rally with them in Tekirdag, you are not alone, ‘We are here, we are here, we are fighting for you.'”
