In Fatih, Istanbul, a suspicious person opened fire on the car of a teacher named Abdulbaki Durmaz. The 44-year-old teacher was shot multiple times in the body and died at the hospital where he was taken. It was revealed that the reason for the armed attack was the hostility between Durmaz’s family in Batman and another family.
The incident occurred in the morning in the Fatih Topkapi district. According to information received, a suspect got out of a taxi while a Turkish teacher, Abdulbaki Durmaz (44), was driving when the suspect repeatedly fired at Durmaz’s car and fled in the same taxi. Durmaz was shot multiple times in the body and seriously injured, and died at the hospital where he was taken. A police team has launched an operation to capture the fleeing suspect.
The moment of the shooting was caught on camera
Security camera footage of the incident in which teacher Abdulbaki Durmaz was killed was released, showing the suspect getting out of a taxi and repeatedly firing at the car in which Durmaz was riding, as well as the moment people around him panicked.
The reason for the armed attack turned out to be the three-year-old enmity between the family of Abdulbaki Durmaz, a character in Batman, and another family.
Bullets rain down on the vehicle
While police teams carried out extensive security measures at the scene, the car of the deceased teacher, Abdulbaki Durmaz, was removed from the scene with the help of a tow truck. Multiple bullet wounds were seen hitting the vehicle’s windows.
The body of Abdulbaki Durmaz (44), who died as a result of the armed attack, has been taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute’s morgue for an autopsy, but his family members continue to wait in front of the Forensic Medicine Institute.
Message of condolence
Meanwhile, a message of condolence was shared on the social media accounts of the Başakşehir Region Directorate of National Education, which read: “One of the teachers at ITO Huma Hatun Imam Hatip Secondary School, Abdülbaki Durmaz, died as a result of the attack. May God have mercy on him, and we express our condolences and patience to his family, relatives, students and friends.”
