Congresswoman Sidney Kamlagar Dove (D-LA) joined Project Angel Food CEO Richard Ayub to celebrate the monumental achievement of delivering the 18 millionth meal to seriously ill patients in Los Angeles County on May 24. This important milestone event was held at Project Angel Food’s headquarters, where staff and volunteers joined in the celebration, reflecting the collective effort and dedication behind this vital organization.
Under Ayub’s welcoming guidance, Kamragar Dabu was given a tour of the kitchen facilities where she witnessed first-hand the care and attention that goes into preparing each meal. She actively participated in the day’s operations, including labeling the last of the 18 millionth meal and interacting with the dedicated team whose hard work makes such an impact possible.
The celebration culminated with a “countdown” to 18 million and inspiring speeches from both Ayub and Kamragar Dabu, who presented the Angel Food Project with a Certificate of Recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives and praised the Angel Food Project for its enduring commitment to the community.
“The Angel Food Project truly embodies the spirit of angels. The preparation and delivery of meals is a testament to the love and care given to community members in need,” said Kamlager-Dove. “With 18 million meals served, the Angel Food Project has risen to the challenge and will continue to do so because those who are sick, hungry and alone need medically tailored meals not only to feel better but also to feel loved.”
The event also focused on the personal impact of Project Angel Food’s work, with Kamlagar-Dove delivering a memorable meal to a stroke survivor battling cardiovascular disease, highlighting the organization’s role in addressing health issues faced by many in the region.
