EASTON — Just like they’ve done so many times before, lifelong Easton residents Jessica and Ben Barsoumian said they picked up their Chinese takeout order from their favorite restaurant, Easton Lucky Corner, on May 15.
However, things were different from usual. When Jessica ate the leftovers the next day, she found a large dead cockroach in the fried rice.
“After I’d eaten most of it, I suddenly looked down and saw a piece of meat and a leg sticking out, which was really unpleasant,” Jessica said, adding that she immediately called the restaurant to report the incident.
“The waiter was apologetic but didn’t seem to care much,” Jessica said. “He asked me for more food, which was the last thing I wanted. I asked for a refund and they said they couldn’t.”
Restaurant manager Rachel May confirmed to The Enterprise in a phone call that Jessica had called the restaurant to report the incident on May 16. May said the restaurant owner offered Jessica a 50% refund, but Jessica never showed up to receive it.

The restaurant’s owners were not available for comment at the time The Enterprise interviewed May.
According to public records, Jessica also reported the incident to the Easton Board of Health, which inspected the restaurant later that same day. The inspection results are as follows:

Here’s why Easton Lucky Corner failed inspection
On May 16, Easton Health Department Inspector Tim Myers inspected Easton Lucky Corner in response to Jessica’s complaint. His report found that the restaurant violated nine of the Massachusetts Minimum Sanitation Standards for Food Establishments. The violations included:
Touching prepared foods with bare hands Open food containers without labels or dates Improper storage of utensils Lack of proper sanitizing buckets Lack of food-grade bathtubs
Myers also noted in his report that the kitchen needed a thorough cleaning.
These violations caused the restaurant to fail inspection.
The inspector found no cockroaches.
But the restaurant complies with pest regulations, and Myers wrote in his report that an exterminator visits the establishment monthly. Inspectors didn’t find any cockroaches when they visited the restaurant, Mayers said.
A few days later, on May 21, Myers reinspected the restaurant and found that all violations had been corrected.

History of failed inspections
This isn’t the first time Easton Lucky Corner has failed inspection.
The restaurant was found to have deficiencies during inspections in September 2018, September 2019, October 2021, March 2022, October 2022, March 2023 and August 2023, according to town records.
After each failed inspection, the restaurant made the necessary changes to pass reinspection.
Jessica Barsoumian took to social media to warn other customers about her experience and discovered she wasn’t the only one saying they’d found non-food items in their orders.
“We’ve had a few people comment that they found bugs in their food,” she said. “Some people have even said they found nails or screws in their food.”
