Antionette Wilson and Eugene Morgan are distributing about 250 meals per day at YMCA Camp Christina, where Hillsborough County residents can receive free breakfast and lunch every day all summer long.
Hillsborough County Public Schools leaders understand the importance of ensuring students have nutritious meals over the summer. From May 28 through Thursday, July 25, Hillsborough County Public Schools will host its annual Summer Meals for Kids program, giving students multiple opportunities to receive free meals.
This program provides free breakfast and lunch to students at schools that have a summer learning program. All children under the age of 18 may come to school when it is open Monday through Thursday. Breakfast and lunch times are posted in school windows. Children do not need to be enrolled in a summer learning program to receive the free meals.
Students can pick up free lunches all summer long at YMCA Camp Christina’s Summer Meal Program for Kids pick-up site.
“Many students rely on their schools for nutritious breakfasts and lunches during the school year, and the need continues through the summer. Balanced meals help nourish students and address food insecurity, and I’m grateful to our dedicated Student Nutrition Services team for helping to feed thousands of children this summer,” said Superintendent Van Ayers.
There are 144 summer meal sites available this summer, including YMCA programs as well as city and county parks and recreation facilities. To find a summer meal site near you, visit www.summerbreakspot.org or text “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 304-304.
