In what seems like a weekly occurrence now, Shohei Ohtani made history again: On Saturday night, in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 4-1 win over the Colorado Rockies, Ohtani recorded one stolen base, his 100th career steal.
Ohtani will become just the second Japanese player to hit 100 home runs and steal 100 bases in his career, the other being Ichiro, who finished his career with 117 home runs and 509 stolen bases.

This marks another milestone for Ohtani, who is practically breaking records and setting new ones all the time. In his career as a hitter, Ohtani has hit 185 home runs, 475 RBIs and 100 stolen bases. Earlier this season, Ohtani also surpassed Hideki Matsui as the Japanese player with the most home runs.
He also made Dodgers history early in the season by hitting 25 extra-base hits in his first 35 games with the team, the most by a Dodger player since at least 1901.
This season, Ohtani is batting .322, on-base .396, slugging .596, with 14 home runs, 38 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases. His batting average is second in the MLB, his home runs are eighth, his hitting percentage and on-base percentage are sixth, his slugging percentage is fourth, and his OPS is fourth.
He’s on pace to have another great season and is even being considered an MVP candidate despite only playing as a designated hitter this year while recovering from a torn UCL he suffered last year.
At his current rate, Ohtani is expected to continue to break many more records throughout his career, live up to the 10-year, $700 million contract he signed last December, and continue to have a major impact on the Dodgers as they seek to win another World Series championship.
