Summer is fast approaching, which means it’s the perfect time to enjoy Michigan’s local foods and drinks. And guess what, Taste the Local Difference (TLD) has just released their 20th anniversary Local Food Guide, an 80-page magazine celebrating all of the delicious food Michigan has to offer thanks to local farms and food businesses.
“This year marks the 20th anniversary of the publication of Taste the Local Difference’s local food guide. What began as a small, regionally focused publication in Northwest Michigan has become a statewide resource for anyone looking for local ingredients,” said Tricia Phelps, CEO of Taste the Local Difference. “The local food movement in Michigan continues to evolve, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
This year’s guide features stories showcasing all that Michigan has to offer as well as locally-focused features like eight Michigan-centric recipes, a seasonal preservation guide and a conversation with Heather Leach of Harrand Hill Farm and Market about supporting native pollinators. The 2024 Local Food Guide features farms and food operations across the state and is divided into seven regions, making it easy for residents and visitors to discover local food sources. QR codes are used throughout the guide to jump to Taste the Local Difference’s searchable digital directory for market hours, CSA information and more.
From the Keweenaw Peninsula to Detroit, Local Food Guides are being distributed free at farmers markets, cafes, libraries, welcome centers and more. This summer, markets across Michigan will be hosting guide release pop-ups where everyone can “Taste the Local Difference,” free of charge. Northwest Michigan residents can join the TLD at the Sarah Hardy Downtown Farmers Market on Saturday, June 15. To have your guide delivered to your home, order online.
It’s a great opportunity to meet local food producers, chat with TLD staff, and connect with other food lovers in your area. Be sure to check out the TLD blog for additional pop-up dates and times.
As summer approaches, take the opportunity to get outside and experience the region’s rich food culture.
