A new study reveals the most underrated and overrated tourist attractions around the world.
A study by flight booking site Wingie analyzed TripAdvisor reviews of the top 50 tourism experiences in each country. Rankings were based on the number of tracked keywords and phrases that indicate whether an experience is perceived to be underrated compared to the total number of reviews. An overall percentage score was then calculated to determine the rankings.
“By studying traveler sentiment, we can uncover which experiences are most well-received by visitors. The key to creating a good experience is delivering one that exceeds expectations. Visitors need to understand the value and uniqueness of each experience and leave feeling like their money was well spent,” said Nihan Cholak Erol, COO of WEG.
“Tourists use sites like TripAdvisor to find out which attractions are worth visiting, and they want to feel like their tickets are value for money, especially at a time when the rising cost of living makes holidays less affordable.”
The Irish National Stud and Gardens in Tully, County Kildare, is ranked the second most underrated place in the world. A thoroughbred breeding facility, the stud offers guided tours and the on-site museum explores the history and traditions of Irish racehorses. The gardens include a Japanese garden, considered the most beautiful in Europe, and the Garden of St. Fiachra, dedicated to the patron saint of gardeners.
The attraction received 2,713 compliments from pleasantly surprised visitors, compared to 1,857 reviews, an average of 1.5 per visitor. Nearly two-fifths (39%) of visitors rated the area as “beautiful” and frequently described their experience as “interesting” (358), “great” (217), “friendly” (209) and “amazing” (205).
