Explosion in Izmir: 4 dead, 35 injured
Medical teams determined four people were killed at the scene. Thirty-five people were injured in the explosion. One of the injured was taken to hospital but could not be saved despite intervention.
Police teams have taken extensive security measures in front of the blast site.
The explosion also caused damage to some surrounding buildings.
Izmir Governor Suleyman Elvan said the explosion happened at a restaurant, while Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said it happened at a coffee house.

Governor’s First Statement
Izmir Governor Suleyman Elvan made a statement at the scene, saying an industrial cylinder had exploded, causing serious injuries.
The governor said 11 buildings were damaged as a result of the explosion.

Chairman of the Republican People’s Party, Ozgur Ozer, held a telephone conversation with Izmir Governor Suleyman Elvan and Torbali Mayor Ovunc Demir regarding the explosion that took place at a restaurant in the Aylancılar district of Torbali district in Izmir. After receiving information about the explosion that claimed the lives of four citizens, Ezer expressed his condolences and wished them a speedy recovery.
Mayor Demir reported that he and his team were in the area where the explosion occurred.

Yelkaya: 35 injured
Making a statement on the matter, Interior Minister Ali Erikaya said an explosion occurred at a coffee house, killing four people and injuring 35.
Yerlikaya made the following statement:
“An explosion occurred today in a coffee house in the Febji Çakmak district of Torbal, Izmir province. Initial investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by an industrial cylinder. Two vehicles, nine personnel and eight ambulances were dispatched by AFAD of Izmir province. The Provincial Health Directorate, two UMKE teams and 36 staff members were dispatched to the area where the incident occurred, but unfortunately four residents lost their lives and 35 of them were injured. We pray for God’s mercy on the people who lost their lives and a speedy recovery. The investigation into this matter is continuing and the public will be informed of any developments.
