ÖSYM President Bayram Ali Ersoy held a press conference regarding the results of the 2024-YKS.
Ersoy began his speech by recalling the dangerous July 15 attempt and the epic heroism shown by the nation under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressing mercy for the martyrs and gratitude to the veterans.
Ersoy said that the first stage of the exciting wait, which began with the completion of the YKS, ends today with the announcement of the 2024-YKS results, which more than three million candidates have been waiting for, and candidates can now find out their results via ÖSYM’s “https://sonuc.osym.gov.tr” address.
Five candidates from Istanbul took first place
ÖSYM President Ersoy said after the results were announced that the likely winner was clear.
Ersoy congratulated the candidates for this success, who have shown great perseverance and hard work, and stressed that it is impossible to achieve success alone:
“I would like to thank the mothers and fathers who gave our champions their utmost support and were always with them, as well as the teachers who did not leave them alone in this process and guided them throughout their educational life. I believe that they will complete the educational process in the best possible way as ‘Great Turkey Again’ and fulfill a useful mission for our country, which has the ideals and goals of a ‘New World’.”
Ersoy announced the winners as follows:
“Winner of the Basic Aptitude Test (TYT) – Suleyman Mete Jenci from Mersin Private Mersin Elite University Science High School.
The winners of our Field Aptitude Test (AYT) are: Vera Kurş, Galatasaray High School, Galatasaray University, Istanbul in equal weight field, Arda Tashdemir Cemil Meriç Scientific High School Elazgu in numerical field, Fatih Emre Düzkan, Private Rize Bacsehir in linguistic field. College Anatolia High School – Rize;
Foreign Language Test (YDT) winners: German Sevgi Kurmizbekmez, Kabataş Boys High School – Istanbul, Arabic Yusuf Salih Orhan, Kartal Anatolian Imam Hatip High School – Istanbul, French Yunus Emre Aydoğan, Çapa Science High School – Istanbul, English Mehmet Alp Günes, Istanbul Ataturk Science High School – Istanbul, Russian Safiye Yaşar, Aylanç Anatolian High School – Ankara.”
Ersoy urged candidates who have got the results to not visit the website multiple times to avoid overloading and hoped that the YKS results would be beneficial.
“2,819,362 people participated in TYT”
Mr Ersoy made a written statement regarding the exam statistics after the YKS results were released.
“Of the 3,000,120,870 candidates who applied for TYT, 2,000,819,362 candidates appeared for the exam while 301,508 candidates did not appear for the exam.” Giving information, Ersoy said of the 2,100,19,699 candidates who applied for the Field Proficiency Test (AYT), 1,000,776,496 candidates appeared for the exam while 243,203 candidates did not appear for the exam.
Ersoy said of the 233,384 candidates who applied for the Foreign Language Test (YDT), 171,90 appeared for the exam while 62,294 candidates did not appear for the exam.
Female candidates are more likely to participate in the exam than male candidates.
88.38 percent of male candidates and 92.16 percent of female candidates who applied for TYT. Ersoy said 84.84 percent of male candidates and 90.64 percent of female candidates who applied for AYT attended the session, while 66.69 percent of male candidates and 78.19 percent of female candidates who applied for YDT attended the session. Male candidates performed better than female candidates in the exam.
YKS problem distribution
ÖSYM Chairman Ersoy reminded that in the first session of TYT, candidates were given 40 questions in the Turkish language test, 20 questions in the social science test, 40 questions in the basic mathematics test and 20 questions in the science test, totaling 120 questions, and candidates were given 165 minutes.
Ersoy said that in the second session of AYT, 40 questions were asked in the Social Science 1 test in Turkish language and literature, 40 questions in the Social Science 2 test, 40 questions in the Mathematics test and 40 questions in Science. Exams and candidates were given 180 minutes, while in the third session, five questions were asked. In the YDT applied to languages, candidates were given 80 questions and 120 minutes in each language test, he said.
Ersoy said in the test conducted in three sessions at YKS, no questions were cancelled out of a total of 680 questions.
YKS test average
Ersoy also made the following assessment of the YKS test averages:
“The average number of correct answers given by high school students in the 2024-TYT was 21,427 in the Turkish Language (40 questions) test, 9,001 in the Social Science (20 questions) test, 7,955 in the Basic Mathematics (40 questions) test, 3,478 in the Science (20 questions) test, 5.547 in the AYT Mathematics (40 questions) test, 2.247 in the Physics (14 questions) subtest, 1.457 in the Chemistry (13 questions) subtest and 2.324 in the Biology (13 questions) subtest.
The average scores for the AYT Turkish Language and Literature-Social Science-1 test were 5,935 for the Turkish Language and Literature (24 questions) subtest, 2,484 for the History-1 (10 questions) subtest, and 2,103 for the Geography-1 (6 questions) subtest, while the average scores for the AYT Social Science-2 test were 2,076 for the History-2 (11 questions) subtest, 2,416 for the Geography-2 (11 questions) subtest, 1,964 for the Philosophy Group (12 questions) subtest, and 1.275 for the ( DKAB) Religious Culture and Ethics/Additional Philosophy Group (“6 questions”) subtest.
Ersoy said the YDT’s average scores were 39.393 in the German test, 27.939 in the Arabic test, 46.334 in the French test, 35.638 in the English test and 52.332 in the Russian test.
TYT female candidates succeed in Turkish and Social Sciences
ÖSYM President Ersoy also provided information on the average number of correct answers according to candidates’ gender.
Ersoy said the average number of correct answers given by female candidates in TYT’s Turkish language and social studies exams was higher than that of male candidates, adding:
“In basic mathematics and science tests, male test-takers averaged higher scores than female test-takers. Of the 11 subtests in the AYT, male test-takers averaged higher in six and female test-takers averaged higher in five. In the YDT, Arabic and Russian had higher scores, and “female test-takers averaged higher than male test-takers in German, French and English.”
“You can’t achieve success alone”
Ersoy congratulated the successful candidates who showed great perseverance and hard work and released the following statement:
“Success cannot be achieved alone. I pay tribute to the parents who have given our champions the utmost support and to the teachers who have not left them alone and guided them throughout this process. I wish our candidates every success in the future. I believe that they will complete their education, handle it in the best possible way and carry out their duties that are beneficial to our country. ” “They are the future and hope of our country.”
